The Last Day side of our boards feature;
- Space to add your Child’s name
- What it is their last day of
- Date
- How tall they are
- Something they are grateful for – gratitude practice
- The best bits of the past year – reflection
- Space for setting some goals for the year to come – goal setting
The last day side is great for reflection, a visual tool to document how much they have grown in the past year. There is a space to write something that they were grateful for in the past year or in the present moment, I added this in as I feel it is important to teach our kids gratitude practice, as practising gratitude can have a big impact on our outlook and our mental health.
Recapping the best bits of the year is also a way to reflect on positive moments of the past year. I’ve also added in space for your child to set some goals they would like to achieve in the year to come. This is a great tool for opening up a discussion about goal setting, what are short term goals, what are long term goals and how to break them down into steps that can be taken to achieve those goals.
Care Instructions
For best results fill in the details for each section of the board using washable chalk only such as standard chalk or water based chalk marker.
While liquid chalk is a great option not all liquid chalk markers on the market are suitable for wooden chalkboards as wood is porous and as a result may absorb some of the pigment from the ink making them difficult to remove. Some contain solvents which can cause the chalkboard paint to come off with the marker upon removal. If you decide to use liquid chalk markers, do so with caution and test on an inconspicuous area first and only use water based liquid chalk such as uni chalk markers from Officeworks.
To remove chalk, get a dry soft micro fibre cloth and wrap it around your finger and gently wipe each section clean one at a time. If there is some dust residue left behind, you can dampen the cloth a little and give it another gentle wipe, make sure the cloth is not too wet as excess water may damage the board. Do not scrub the board or use abrasive cloths and cleaning solutions as this may remove the chalkboard paint or damage the design on the board by weakening the adhesive.
